Week 9 Thing 23

Yeah, the last one. There were many, many times that I thought I would never make it all the way to the end. It has been a great learning experience. There were so many "firsts" for me. From listening to podcasts to viewing something on YouTube. All of the "things" were new to me. I'm very proud of myself for being able to complete the program. The self-paced aspect was helpful. Also having other staff to share trials, triumphs and just fun stuff with was great. It was a good team building project. At least at Perry Hall, there was a group of us, that encouraged each other, and would check on progess. What thing are you on now? Maybe a little competition also, none of us wanted to be left behind. I have friends that work at HCPL, and they were doing it also. It was fun finding their blogs and adding comments.

WOULD THIS BE A GOOD TIME TO LET YOU KNOW THAT AT HCPL, EVERY STAFF PERSON WHO FINISHED THE PROGRAM WAS GIVEN AN IPOD. HINT, HINT.
I'm sure that the prizes in our drawing will be even better than that.

Reading other people's blog was interesting, and trying to figure out who was who. There were some really interesting ones.

I would be interested in doing another discovery project. It provided the frame work, to make me stretch myself and try new things that I would not have on my own. Most of the discovery things I had never hear of and would not have found them on my own.

Week 9 Thing 22

I established an overdrive account. I was surprised at the varity and number of titles available. I was sad to learn that I can not use an ipod to download items. I was most interested in being able to download and then listen on the go. I don't see the point in downloading to your home computer. I guess I don't spend enough time on the computer to listen to something while I work.
On a related subject, I'm dissapointed in the decline of Talking Books on Cas. I listen to them in the car to and from work. Not everyone has a CD player in their vehicle. I will have in look into what is available for download to an ipod.
On a happier note, one more thing to go.

week 9 Thing 21

I found that a lot of the podcasts required additional software downloads, so I didn't use those. Podcast.net and Podcastalley.com both required additional software. Yahoo Podcasts was the easiest to use. Some of the podcast were really boring. I found one that was 38 minutes long, no I didn't listen for very long. It was a cooking chat between 5 chefs from different cities. They lost me before they were finished introducting themselves.
I ended up adding the RSS feed for www.dogcastradio.com. It is a british radio program on dog training and well, really anything dog.
I'm starting to see the end in sight, just two more "things". Of course the end of the month is also coming in to sight. So many things, so little time.
Until next time.

Week 9 Thing 20

Youtube was way fun. I did feel a little guilty since we are not letting customers use youtube. But I got over that. What bandwidth problem. I picked this video because I thought it was funny. I started to put the Sneaks Summer Reading Trip on my blog, but someone else on the staff said they were going to use that one. I didn't want to copy, besides the dogs were funny.

Week 8 Thing 19

OK this is getting fun now. I checked out Yelp. Got ideas for places to go on vacation. Best places to eat and stay. Looked up several cities, also had links to services etc. I also played around with Arcaplay, a free gaming site. I'm not much of a gamer so did poorly. Found a game between a cat and a dog. As the dog I threw bones over the fence and tried to hit the cat. The cat (controlled by the computer) was throwing garbage out of a can over the fence. Let's just say the cat won.

Week 8 Thing 18

WOW I exported my test page using Zoho's publish options. WooYoo. Lots of fun. Still miles of things to go before I rest. The month is flying by and I still want to win a prize.
